Danilo Perez Trio
Danilo is a brilliant pianist and composer who combines the bebop tradition with his Panamanian heritage, African elements and a willingness to take chances. He is one of the most influential and dynamic musicians of our time. Danilo has had a long time association with Paquito D’Rivera and Dizzy Gillespie where he was the youngest member of the United Nations Orchestra. He has led his own groups since the early 90‘s and has had 3 Grammy nominations. He started playing piano in Panama at the age of eight and now leads for Novus and Impulse.
Benny Golson Quartet
Multitalented and internationally famous jazz legend, Benny is a composer, arranger, lyricist, producer and tenor saxophonist of world note. Benny is one of the few musians who can claim to be a true innovator and can bost a performing and recording career that literally redefines the term “jazz”. Benny has written 8 standards for jazz repertoire, he has recorded over 30 albums, written numerous TV s and film scores and he has also composed and arranged music for: Count Basie, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Sammy Davis Jr, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson, George Shearing........ the list goes on and on. He has been honoured with many Doctorates, lectures extensively and still has some time to play for us. We are very proud and honoured!
David "Fathead" Newman
remains one of the great Texas-bred tenor men. Born in 1933 he always had a love of music. He graduated from Lincoln High School and received a scholarship to study theology and music, after two years he left to go on the road full time with Buster Smith, Charlie Parker’s mentor. On tour David met Ray Charles, they immediately bonded, both musically and as friends. When Ray started his own band he called on David to be part of his group and in 1959 he recorded his first album as leader titled “Fathead“: Ray Charles Presents “Fathead”. They shared a lifelong friendship, which is apparent in David’s CD, “I Remember Brother Ray”. David has played baritone and tenor sax and flute with such greats as Herbie Mann, Aretha Franklin, Hank Crawford, Roy Ayers, Buster Williams, the list is endless. The gentleman is superb!
Cynthia Scott
This fabulous lady was once an original “Raelette” with the late, great Ray Charles. She started out as a gospel singer and found that singing was her passion. She made history by being the first voice aver heard in the Rose room at the Lincoln Centre and she has been described as “A mesmerising Vocalist” by the Chicago Tribune and “is one of the world’s greatest singers” by Harry Connick Jr whom she discovered and helped to fame. She has sung and taught worldwide. She will be paying tribute to Ray Charles with his old side kick David “Fathead” Newman as well as treating you to more songs from her own CD’s. This exciting lady is sheer class!
Dr. Lonnie Smith Trio
is considered by many to be the world’s top jazz organist, he also plays piano but it’s his association with his Hammond B3 that makes him renowned. His mother was the major musical influence in his childhood. He then formed a long-term partnership with George Benson on guitar, however he has now produced over 30 albums under his own name. In 1967 he met Lou Donaldson and they recorded many albums for Blue Note. Lonnie has also performed at prominent Jazz Festivals with Grover Washington Jr, Ron Carter, Dizzy Gillespie and of course Lou Donaldson. He has also played with many greats outside jazz; Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight, Etta James. He calls himself “Doctor” and wears a turban to all his shows for “No Particular Reason”. We have every reason to welcome him back - he is wonderful!
Donald Harrison Quartet
Donald played saxophone with Art Blakey’s Jazz messengers in the 80’s and co-led a group with fellow New Orleanian Terence Blanchard for many years. He is being called “one of the most important musicians of the new millennium” by CBS. He is the originator of the Nouveau Swing Style, which is the freshest thing to come out of New Orleans in years. He produces, writes, sings and plays many different instruments. His playing credits include: Roy Haynes, Jack McDuff, McCoy Tyner, Nat Adderley, Miles Davis and Lena Horne, the list is endless. Through his talent Donald has developed into one of the most significant artists to emerge in the last 20years.
Benny Green Trio
This fantastic young pianist was chosen by Oscar Peterson to be the first recipient of the City Of Toronto’s Glen Gould International Protégé Prize in Music. That year he replaced Gene Harris in the Ray Brown trio. He has a highly personalized style but on his “Green’s Blues” CD he featured an exciting collection of jazz standards by Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Eroll Garner and George Gershwin among others. He leads his own trios, and on his CD “Naturally” he featured Christian McBride on bass and Russell Malone on guitar. Benny is a perpetual student of the History of Jazz Piano and he is one of the most exciting, popular and stimulating pianists of our time. Welcome back Benny!

Ed Calle
this saxophonist is known for his extraordinary ability to play bebop, Latin and contemporary jazz and pop. Born in Caracas of Spanish parents it was obvious from the start that he was a natural player and now, Calle can be heard on hundreds of recordings both as a sideman and soloist. He appears on Grammy-award-winning albums by Frank Sinatra, Vicky Carr, Arturo Sandoval and Jon Secada, as well as on numerous television and motion picture soundtracks.
Doug Cameron
one of the true innovators of the contemporary and electric violin. With eight CD’s to his credit, Cameron has long been a favorite on jazz radio internationally. Doug has recorded and performed with a wide range of artists, including George Benson, Doc Severinsen, Cher, the Allman Brothers as well as on numerous motion pictures and commercials. Cameron was exposed to the music industry from a very young age. His mother, singer-songwriter Barbara Cameron had her own radio show in Cincinnati where she replaced Doris Day and often sang with Rosemary Clooney.
